What Does Persistent Head Pain After An Injury Indicate?

default

Question: About 2-3 months ago I started to get in my car . However, a friend of mine had driven it and the seat had been pushed way forward. Consequently, when I started to get in, I really whacked my head hard on the right side from just above my ear to close to my right eye (about a 3 inch area in length by the temple). I have had some problems ever since. I've had some pains that started where I hit my head (on the right side) that seem to travel to the left side and then behind my left ear down to the back of my head/neck. Also, some pains behind my right eye and in other parts of my head from time to time. I thought the pains were diminishing but I "tapped" my head again (not hard) and they have slightly increased. My doctor (GP) retired a few months ago and I have not found one or needed one until this came up. In fact, I'm still not sure if I even need a doctor NOW, but the symptoms have just seemed to linger longer than I had anticipated and I don't even know how much attention I should give to this or if it is necessary to see a doctor - or what kind of doctor I should see. I went to a hospital ER about a month ago and after taking x-rays she told me I didn't have a fracture. I asked her if she knew what the problem was and she just stood there, shook her head and said no. She was only out of med school 3 yrs. - very nice person - but I wasn't sure how much confidence I should put in her diagnosis - whatever it was. She may be entirely right but since the symptoms haven't disappeared, I have become a little concerned. The pains are not as severe (and never were REAL bad) as they were at first, but I just keep wondering if I could have a slight concussion and if so, is there something I should be doing to keep anything from progressing. I'm 77, seemingly in good health otherwise, on the go all the time, and attend a 1 hr. exercise class 30 miles from my home twice a week. I taught school for over 50 yrs, (Spanish/French/Russian) and still sub at school. As you can see, I'm very active and hope to stay that way!!!

Brief Answer:
Get MRI SCAN.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query.

In my opinion you should visit orthopedic surgeon, who will do your physical examination and may advise MRI scan of cervical spine, as I am suspecting disc protrusion due to impact of trauma at your age.

Xray can't tell whole picture, MRI can tell about vertebrae, disc condition and surrounding soft tissues.

MRI scan can't expose radiation to person, its safe.

After getting MRI scan please upload it.

Avoid overhead activities.

Till then you can have tab.aceclofenac100mg+thiocolchicoside4mg twice a day by prescription of your doctor as this medicine is not over the counter.

I hope it will help you.

Thanks,
