What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

Question: I need an understanding on the following mri report - at L3/4 there is diffuse broad annular laxity but a fairly broad superadded posterior midline disc protrusion flattening the anterior theca. Medial to lateral this disc bulge measures 17mm and has a depth of 4-5mm. This does result in crowded lateral recesses and potential impingement to pre-exiting / descending L4 nerve roots. No separate fissue. Exit foramina are widely patent, the facets show minimal degenerate change.

Brief Answer:
Nerves get compressed by the protruded disc.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

I have gone through your MRI report. It is suggestive with PIVD( prolapsed inter-vertebral disc) where the nerves get compressed by the protruded disc. In your case L4 nerve root get compressed by L3/4 protruded disc.

There are several treatment modalities with medicines, physiotherapy and with injections in the back called epidural injections and root/facet blocks.
If you do not get better with these treatment , another option is surgery, by which the nerves are decompressed by removing the protruded disc (discectomy), which would significantly improve your symptoms.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care
