Can I Give Vaginal Birth Inspite Of Failed Vaginal Mesh Surgery?

My name is Aimee Cota I had vaginal mesh surgery in 2011 and had it removed due to complications Feb 2013. I am 4'11 135 lbs and no complications during surgery. I just found out I am pregnant. I was told I could not have a vaginal birth which I don't believe and want a 2nd opion.

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Basically a mesh surgery is done for utero vaginal prolapse.
Normal labour significantly increases your chances of having a prolapse.
Also, if the mesh surgery went wrong and you had it removed, there are higher chances of adhesions in this area.
In this case, the cervix would not dilate due to the fibrosis and adhesions in this area.
Also, A cesarean delivery is always recommended after a mesh surgery and more so, after a complicated / failed mesh surgery.
It is best not to attempt vaginal labour as it may exacerbate your prolapse problems.
Please write in with more details of your prior surgery and the complications henceforth, that would shed a clear light on the future prospects.

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Can you please upload the blood reports that have been done so far ?
Sometimes what you describe could fall under the category of Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy ( ICP ).
In this condition, the bile salts fail to get metabolized properly due to the effect of pregnancy hormones.
Liv 52 is often prescribed in this condition to support liver functions.
It is perfectly safe to take this drug , so dont worry.
You can continue taking it till term.
Periodic fortnightly monitoring of the liver functions should be done though.
Please write in with the blood reports at -
