Could It Be A Staph Infection If There Is A Blister In The Navel Area In The Incision Site And Discharging Pus?
I had laproscopy surgery on the 20th and a stitch removed Monday in the Dr's office. My belly button itches like crazy and is still sore. I have been cleaning it with a qtip and hibbacleanse. Today it was very itchy and warm. I got a flash light and saw a yellowish puss blister inside my navel. At first I thought it was some type of discharge but when I touched it with the qtip it burst and bled a little. I am worried it is a staph infection.
I would keep a possibility of Eczematous dermatitis (Allergic dermatitis to cleansing antiseptic, followed by secondary infection). Cleansing of wound or stitch site is frequently complicated by Dermatitis to one of the antiseptic ingredients which can elicit itching and scratching followed by secondary infection.
If i were your treating doctor i would want to stop usage of the cleansing antiseptic.
An oral antibiotic(penicillin group) for a week will dry up any secondary infection and oozing along with a topical mild steroid+antibiotic combination cream twice daily for 7-10 days will help in faster resolution of the dermatitis.
An OTC oral antihistamine like cetrizine once daily will help control the itching.
take care
