Diarrhea, Frequent Bowels. Stool Test Normal. Can Gast Reg Be Taken?

hey, my daughter is 20 years old and for years now she s been having periods where she gets diarrhea , so much so that she has to go to the bathroom almost 3 times a day. Every time we ve done stool tests and the results showed that there was absolutely nothing wrong with her. The last doctor we visited prescribed something called Gast Reg and I was wondering whether she should take that, or is there something we re missing here. Thank you so much in advance.

Hi
I can understand your agony regarding your daughters problem.
The description you described is more suggestive of an Irritable bowel syndrome.
what the physician prescribed is appropriate when the symptoms are severe.
there are many modalities in treating this
Diet
Medications
Psychological counselling.
You better consult and Gastroenterologist at the earliest to know the diagnosis .
few dietary suggestions are
Have regular meals and take time to eat.
Avoid missing meals or leaving long gaps between eating.
Drink at least 8 cups of fluid per day, especially water or other non-caffeinated drinks such as herbal teas.
Restrict tea and coffee to 3 cups per day.
Reduce intake of alcohol and fizzy drinks.
Consider limiting intake of high-fibre food (for example, wholemeal or high-fibre flour and breads, cereals high in bran, and whole grains such as brown rice).
Reduce intake of 'resistant starch' (starch that resists digestion in the small intestine and reaches the colon intact), often found in processed or re-cooked foods.
Limit fresh fruit to 3 portions (of 80 g each) per day.
For diarrhoea, avoid sorbitol, an artificial sweetener found in sugar-free sweets (including chewing gum) and drinks, and in some diabetic and slimming products.
For wind and bloating consider increasing intake of oats (for example, oat-based breakfast cereal or porridge) and linseeds (up to 1 tablespoon per day).
hope my answer gives an direction for you.
take care all the best.
