My son had a stroke before birth. We were told it is called encephalomalacia. It was discovered when he was three. He is now 16 and is having periodic loss of vision in left eye. We were told the stroke affected the area of the brain that is responsible for vision. Any relation?
encephalomalacia is also called cerebral softening.in this there is localised softeing of brain substance due to inflammation or haemorrhage.this is a type of brain stroke or CVA. newborn cerebral softening may be due to birth asphyxia/ effect of delayed & obst labour/ birth trauma This if happens, may affect any area of brain, may it be visual area- which lies in back part of the brain (Occipital cortex). Periodic loss of vision is not convincing in your statement. either it will go or will remain. I will advise to get her eye checked up by a qualified MS/Md ophthalmologist and also get auto nperimetry done (This is a visual field test which will help in diagnosis)
