I had the mirena iud placed 10/13/10. On 10/31/10, I couldn't get out of bed and stand up straight. Since then, I have had back pain every day. Not every day is as bad as the first day, but there are days where I can't stand up straight and most days I hurt just moving. I just this past week connected the fact that I had the iud placed earlier in the month. I am going to the drs on wed and it sounds like they don't want to remove the iud. What should I do?
Post insertion Merina IUD women do complain of backache, cramps, irregular periods, spotting between periods or heavier periods with stronger cramping. IUD use has proven to be safe and effective for most women when prescribed and inserted by a well-trained and experienced provider. However, chances of complications cannot be ruled out. One of the most serious complications that can arise because of an IUD is infection. It may cause PID if not treated in time. Lost strings is another complication, it shows that the IUD is not at the proper location or may also indicate serious issues such as expulsion, or perforation.
Since you are hurting and are unable to stand, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist to make sure the IUD is present in the correct location and to detect any complications. In the meantime, take analgesics, Acetaminophen one SOS when needed to ease discomfort. Yes, Merina may cause backpain. It is better to get the IUD removed if you are not comfortable. You can use any other birth control methods.
