my husband died after having polymyositis for eight years it affected his lungs and he had pulmonary fibrosis and copd thought we would grow old together but one night he just stopped breathing could we have prevented his death or do you gradually get worse with polymyositis
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Polymyositis is connective tissue disease. It affects almost all organs of the body especially lungs. It is incurable and progressive disease. With treatment, we can reduce the rate of progression but we can revert it. Pulmonary fibrosis in Polymyositis patients suggest worse prognosis. Usual life expectancy after diagnosing fibrosis is less than 4 years. So this disease usually get worse over time. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Thanks.
