How To Cope With Multiple Surgeries?

Hi my name is Donna im 45 yrs old and I ve had MRI on all 3 parts of my back now, all showing disc protrusions. I ve already had surgery done 02031on the cervical spine, and today I seen my doctor and we are discussing surgery on the thoracic part of my spine because I have disc herniation there as well. He tells me this surgery is rare and risky, but I ve been dealing with all of this since last July and it making me mentally sick as well as physically sick because of the pain and weakness I m experiencing. I ve not been working since Nov when I had the 1st surgery which reallly depresses me because I ve worked since I was 17 yes old and I m relying on my 21 yr old son to support me which depresses me too. They also found parapelvic renal cysts during this last MRI.Which I don t understand completely what that means if it has to do with my back or is there something else going on too. I feel like I m falling apart and not sure which direction I should go next. I m too young to feel this bad, and fear I m not going to be able to support myself and my 14yr old daughter. I m just looking for some guidance or some direction. Thank you for your time.

General Surgeon 's  Response
HI.
I can understand the plight you are going through.

The good part is - the para-renal cyst if simple has nothing to do with your spinal problems and can be left alone if it has no symptoms.

Multiple surgeries is always a tremendous tensions on the patient - the relatives and the Surgeon too.

Ask the surgeon how confident is he to deal your problems. IF he is just believe in him and go ahead. Everything will be fine.

The most important part is : have you got symptoms due to the discs at teh thoracic region and please ask your Surgeon , whether the surgery is going to help alleviate the problems. If not , say no to surgery.
If yes go for it - why ??? I tell you operating at an appropriate time only helps to get a cure... If you are going to have it go for surgery.

Take your siblings into confidence and take their opinion too .
