Large Dermoid Cyst, MRI Done, Undergone Bilateral Oophorectomy. Anything To Worry?

HI two years ago I had a large dermoid cyst that measured 7.5 cm on a MRI. When I had it removed the surgeon said it was the size of a large grapefruit on my right ovary.. I had a bilateral oophorectomy with the removal of the dermoid. Recently I had a MRI that said I had a mixed density encapsulated mass containing boyh fat and soft tissue. the mass measures 3.4 cm and is consistent with a new or recurrent dermoid. So my question is could the doctor have left my ovary in and that is why another one grew? And my other question is if the first one measured 7.5cm and was the size of a large grapefruit.Does that mean this one could be the size of a orange?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
This could be one possibility that some ovarian tissue was left inside & has grown now. Other reason could be a growth from your abdominal peritoneum.
However, nothing can be said for sure unless the growth is removed & biopsied.
I think orange size is a little bigger & for describing this measurement lemon would be a more appropriate option. You must not get upset by these examples these are just used to simplify measurements for the non-technical peoples.
Hope you get well soon.
Take care.
