Same Nail Cutter Used For HIV Infected Person Also. Both Bled. Am I Infected Also?

hi doctor,i walked into a salon so that i could get the edge of my nail that had started growing into the side of my big toe,it was cut out roughly and i bled in the process.I then got to learn the nail cutter i used,had been used for the same purpose 1 hour ago by someone infected by the HIV virus who also bled slightly.DO U THINK I GOT INFECTED OF HIV AT THAT TIME? THANK YOU.

Hello,
welcome to Healthcare Magic.

As bleeding is present in your case and hiv infected person case, during the process of cutting nail, then minor chances are there to get infection.

In needle prick injury chances of hiv infection is less than 1 %. In your case it appear even less as there was gap of 1 hour, before exposue. HIV virus is very labile outside the body, specially in summer.

It is better to get HIV ELISA now and after 3 month for further assurance.
