Sudden Weight Gain, Unable To Walk Or Exercise. Is Gymming A Good Option ?

hello...my vital stats- age-25 , weight-61, gender-female. good health. I have gained 6-7kgs weight in 2yrs. Before 2yrs, i was slim and fit. But now i have fats around my waist area, arms, thigs as well as hip area. My body structure is not in proper form. I hardly get time to exercise or workout because of my hectic schedule. I sometimes go for walk once or twice if i get time at weekends. I am thinking of joining a gym. as it will in disciplined way. but i have still not made up my mind for that as i have heard....that if we skip gymming...we tend to gain more weight than usual. Is gymming a good option? i am confused.

Hello,
Loosing weight is indeed very difficult but a disciplined approach can definitely make you attain your goal.
First of all you should get your thyroid function checked to look for hypothyroidism because hypothyoroidism is a very commonly occurring problem which results in weight gain.
Now I would explain you  the mathematics of weight loss....
To lose one pound by exercising, you need to burn approximately 3,500 calories. (2.2 pound is one kg).
This can be done by exercising and cutting calories.
Walking or jogging uses roughly 100 calories per mile.
One would lose a pound for every 35 miles of walk (provided food intake and other activities are constant.)
Walking briskly (4 miles per hour) for 30 minutes on five days a week will be equal to walking 10 miles a week. So it would take 3 ½ weeks to lose one pound (provided the number of calories stays the same.
Cutting back by 250 calories a day (½ cup of ice cream or two sugar-sweetened sodas) will lead to a loss of a pound in two weeks.
By eating 250 fewer calories and walking for 30 minutes a day, it would take a week to lose one pound.
So be realistic and aim for loosing only one pound a week and this way your weight loss would be achievable and permanent.
Thanks

Hi there ~

Going to the gym or exercising is one of two ways to lose weight. It is a healthy way too. You just need 30-40 minutes 4 times a week, half the time divided to cardio and half the time for weights. Also eating healthy may be another option to lose weight. I hope you consult a nutritionist.

I hope this helped and yes, do go to the gym. It is a good option and get a trainer too.

Take care and have a lovely day!

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

6 Kg in 2 years is not too much or sudden.

Weight is like bank account. The account grows when you withdraw less (Cut down unnecessary physical work) and you deposit more (eat more). If the weight is picking up, it only means – the exercise is not enough or the food is more.

See a good dietician - you have to reduce the quantity of your food and change the quality too.

Exercise has its limitations – only moderate but definite role in reducing weight / but gets a better shape. For example, in walking 1 kilometre, one spends 1 Calorie per kilogram of his body weight! A cup of rice or an average bar of chocolate has approximately 200 calories.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
