Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Anterior Talofibular Ligament Injury
I completely tore my anterior talofibular ligament after spraining my ankle for the third time, do I need surgery or should I opt for non-operative treatment? I do live a very active lifestyle and I m only 41 years, so I am highly concerned that my lifestyle would be permanently disrupted.
As the ligament is completely torn surgery might be the choice depending upon the choice. But for now you should stabilize the ankle in ankle brace. Do hot water fermentation and try strengthening the muscles of the foot and leg.
Using a balance board training under a guided Physiotherapist will help fruit some results to stabilize the ankle and strengthen the muscles supporting the ankle.
This will be a time-consuming procedure as you have a completely torn ligament.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
