Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Was told I had bulging disks at L4 and L5/S1 with calcification. I have had been in constant, moderate pain now for 3 yrs. I am not sleeping well due to the pain waking me up at night. First thing in the morning, I can barely move and again in the evening the pain increases. I have been to physio and the exercises I was instructed to do are making the pain worse. Should I stop or push through the pain?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.Your problem is most likely due to nerve compression syndrome from disc bulge.A physical examination and a X ray followed by a MRI if needed of Lumbosacral spine will be needed to find the extend and severity of condition. For mild to moderate cases i advise muscle relaxants like cyclobenzaprine NSAIDs like aceclofeanac, or tramadol.I send them to physiotherapy and exercise along with this.If no improvement in this or the condition is severe then i recommend surgical correction like microdiscectomy, laminectomy or chemonucleosis according to the requirement.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
