Suggest Treatment For Common Cold

Thanks for this service. My daughter has had common cold for sometime [runny nose], as a result we all in the family (myself and wife), have been also affected by this - it has been more than three weeks that this has been going on. What is your guidance/suggestion?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

Children, especially in the school going age group catch lots of viral infections, and make adults prone to it as well. Now long standing infection needs to be tested, and I would suggest at least an x ray chest and esr test to make sure that there is no significant infection.

The problem with viral infections is that there are too many of them. So body cannot possibly be immune to all of them. So adults are prone to infection as well.

You can try the following things-
1. steam inhalation
2. warm saline gargles
3. plenty of fluids.
4. multivitamins.
5. antibiotics if fever occurs.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Please feel free to ask another query. I would be glad to help you. Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
