Surgery Due To Remove Right Ovary With Many Cyst. Had Partial Hysterectomy, Uterus Removed. Can Remove Both Ovary?
Hi I am going in for surgery in two days to remove my right ovary that has numerous cysts. I am curious and wanting to have both removed I've had numerous surgeries and this time they want to remove the actual's ovary I'm trying to make the decision to remove both or just the one that has the cyst I already had a partial hysterectomy in 2009 so I do not have my uterus
The reason why the ovaries are retained after a hysterectomy is because the ovaries produce the bodys sex hormones which help in keeping a number of problems at bay. They prevent menopausal symptoms, help in aging as per the actual age, and have various other benefits.
The only way I could advice you on whether or not you should go ahead with removal of both ovaries would be with the most basic information that you have missed out in your query; which is your age. Based on your age it would be decided as appropriate or not; if you do decide to go ahead with the removal of both ovaries and are in that age group that might experience ill-effects due to this procedure, your doctor might have to prescribe daily hormonal supplements.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
