Vaginal Dryness, Painful Intercourse After Hysterectomy, Advised Vagifem. Treated DVT With Warfarin. Is It Safe ?
In 2010 I had a DVT and was treated with 6 months of Warfarin to clear it up. Shortly after that I had a total hysterectomy and since then have experienced vaginal dryness and painful intercourse. My Dr. recommends Vagifem 10 but after reading the insert that came with the package I am fearful it is not safe for me due to the DVT. Any advice???
Hello, Welcome to Healthcaremagic. It is unsafe to use Vagifem because you already have history of Deep vein thrombosis. Because Estrogen produces some chemicals which cause the blood to clot and thus increase the chance of recurrence of your deep vein thrombosis.
Remember any for estrogen increase either by disease or medication or contraception always increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis and other thromboembolic diseases, coronary artery diseases.
Alternatively you can use water based lubricants. Some herbal lotions are also available.
Continuing with sexual activity is a great way to bring blood to the area and nourish your vaginal cells.
Hope this helps. Take care.
