What Causes Arcus Senilis Other Than High Cholesterol?
Hello,
My husband is 50 years old and during his last eye examination the optometrist mentioned he has an arcus senilis around his eye. He will have his cholesterol checked, but if it comes back normal, what else could be the cause?
Hello It seems from the history that your husband is having arcus senilis. Arcus senilis is a age related phenomenon and is considered as normal in people aged more than 50 years. In people aged less than 40 years it is seen in association with high cholesterol levels. In your husband's case no further evaluation is required as he is aged 50 years.
Thank you
