What Causes Heavy Periods After The Removal Of Ovary?
Hi, I m 48. At age 43 I had my left ovary removed because of a cyst and was diagnosed with 5 fibroids in my uterine wall and uterine polyps (nothing cancerous found during surgery for ovary removal in 2010 or polyp removal in Feb. 2013 ). I never had heavy periods until after my ovary was removed, now I have heavy periods that usually last 10 days sometime longer. Last month, a week before it was due, I started bleeding and it was brown and very light and lasted 5 days, I had some cramping in my back and my left side. I did not have a regular period. I missed my period again this month, I m not having unprotected sex and I ve never had children (I wanted to at age 43 this is why my doctor was reluctant to do a hysterectomy). I ve been poked and prodded so much during the last 3 1/2 years I dread going to the doctor. I m hoping- could this be menopause?
Heavy menses can occur due to fibroids. You need to undergo ultrasound of uterus to see for the number and size of fibroids. Also you need to undergo blood test for thyroid hormones. Accordingly the further treatment will be required.
