What Causes Lightheadedness, Pressure In Temple Region And Nasal Drainage?

My husband is having the following symptoms: light headed, pressure at temples, and lower back of heard, full feeling in his ears, some nasal drainage, trouble focusing sometimes, fatigue. He has been to an ENT who ruled out vertigo which he has had in the past. He is 42 and takes crestor, ramipril and niaspan (?). His BP has been around 140 over 75 pr 150 over 80. He has heart disease in his family and is concerned it is heart related. I think he has eyestrain from sitting at a computer....or possibly is some side effect of his meds? thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your husband having the problems of light headedness, pressure in temple region, nasal discharge, feeling full in ears, trouble in focusing, working on computers and taking medicines like Ramipril Crestor and so on.
The commonest causes I can think about are as follows:
Due to nasal discharge there may fluid in ears gone through Eustachian tubes causing fullness in ears.
Sinusitis may cause head related problems.
Since blood pressure is almost in range this may not be the reason but it is best to get a Cardiac evaluation as is positive family history related to heart diseases.
ENT evaluation, Endoscopy of Ear, nose and throat.
Audiometry.
CT scan of sinuses and mastoids.
All these will give a proper diagnosis so that a proper management can be done as per the cause found.
Till then continue nasal decongestant drops,
Steam inhalation with plain water.
Do not blow the nose.
Do not instill anything in ears unless advised by your ENT Surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
