» Ear, Nose and Throat ProblemsMucus on throat, taken antibiotics, runny nose, coughing I have had mucus on my throat for around 2 months now. I believe it is being caused by snot running down from my nose onto my throat. I have tried anti-biotics; decongestant nasal spray; Vit-C; Despite all the above, I am still getting a runny nose and Mucus on my throat that causes a constant cough that means I am having to expel mucus from my throat all day and night. I feel fit and well. I have no known allergies.
The symptoms as mentioned in your post suggest that you might be having Allergic tracheo-bronchitis. Examination of the throat using a laryngoscope and X ray of the chest will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.
Management includes: 1.Antihistamine preparations like Allegra & Cough expectorant syrup for symptomatic relief. 2. Montelukast preparations- used as a maintenance therapy. 3. A course of antibiotics may be taken to prevent secondary bacterial attack. 4. Maintain adequate hydration & take a healthy balance diet. 5. Also make sure that you are well protected from cold, dust & other allergens.
