What Does Mild Bilateral Perineuritis In MRI Suggest?
I had an MRI for severe pain and shadows in upper left side of left eye and shadows in left eye following cataract surgery. The MRI impression reads: Mild enhancement around the bilateral optic nerve sheaths, suggesting a mild bilateral perineuritis. Findings are most concerning for a mild inflammatory of infectious etiology. Also, MRI report includes: There is mild to moderate diffuse cerebral volume loss. Intracranial flow-voids are unremarkable. Could you please explain?Thank you.
The optic nerve carries information from the eye to the brain. Your MRI report says that the optic nerve covering is showing inflammation and this is termed perineuritis. Optic perineuritis is an uncommon variety of orbital inflammatory disease. This shows good response to treatment with corticosteroids.
Mild to moderate diffuse cerebral volume loss is due to age related shrinking of the brain and is expected at an elderly age.
Intracranial flow voids are unremarkable suggests that the blood flow in your brain is normal.
