What Is Pre-diabetes And How Can It Be Cured ?

Fasting Glucose of 156 - Diabetic or Pre-diabetic? PLS HELP !!!!! Hey everyone! I need URGENT help as am in a state of panic. I am living in US and my mom, 57 year old, is in India by herself. She recently got her lab tests, here are the results: 1. Glucose Fasting = 156 2. Total Cholestrol = 210, HDL = 48, LDL = 130.4, Triglycerides = 158 3. SGOT = 50, SGPT = 46, GGTP = 89, Alkaline Phosphatase = 195, Urea = 15 I am in panic because I am finding conflicting information on line. My mom has had very stressful 3 years and that has imapcted her unhealthy eating habits - eating out, fattening food, sweets, etc. I am hoping to find answers if she is diabetic or not. I hope it is pre-diabetic and can be reversed with proper diet and exercise. The doctor she went to right now has said that she is diabetic but I am finding information online that she could be pre-diabetic and can be controlled. Please advise ASAP!! Would appreciate it very much! God Bless!

Hello raj;
welcome to HealthcareMagic
The other reports of choesterol is high and considering her age she should get on strict with her diet .The SGOT/SGPT are normal but on higher side.The blood sugar fasting of 156 is high as the normal range is 90-110 and I would suggest you to tell her to repeat the blood sugar fasting and even do a post lunch sugar on the same day.If say the fasting sugar is around 130-140 and the post lunch remains at 170-180 then probably your mother can be considered as pre-diabetic but if the post lunch sugar goes above 200 then she is surely diabetic and will need treatment.Do not panic tell her to get investigated and then if required treated.
Thanks

Get ppbs, c-peptide, GAD test also done instead of going through a series of shuttling back and forth between doctor and labs. Don't panic. Throwing all American junk food out of the house will help a lot. Never ever take that sweet poison called ASPARTAME loaded "Sugar Free".

Change of diet, even small regular walk every day, minimising carbs to bare min and reducing all stress helps. Ashwagandha from Himalaya drugs helped me in having a good restorative sleep besides cooling off my mind.

In the end ... buy a meter and try to eat to meter. Also if she is on some other medicines even some medicines are known to cause elevated BG levels so take that into account also.

I started off at 129 FBS and still not on any medicines. Just Ayurvedic supplements and change of diet. This disease is a result of the Engineered fats and Oils and HCFS loaded "JUNK/PACKAGED" food that is safe till it is on shelf. This low fat diet FAD has ruined 25% of population with this epidemic wherever American Junk food has penetrated the market (China/India included).

PS: I am not a Doctor.

Hi Raj, Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum.
Your Mother's History suggests she has Hypertriglyceridemia and Diabetes Mellitus. The Diagnostic criteria for Diabetes include, A fasting blood sugar level between 100 and 125 mg/dl is considered Pre-diabetes. If it is 126 mg/dL or higher on two separate tests, she will be diagnosed with diabetes. Kindly don't rely upon the Information you get on Internet. She is a Diabetic and she needs to be examined by a Diabetologist so that he can examine her and suggest Post-Prandial Blood Sugar Test to confirm it. If necessary, her urine will also be tested to look for the presence of ketones. Once confirmed she will require Hypoglycemic agents.
In addition to regular medications, she should be avoiding high calorie foods and eat healthy nutritious balanced diet which should include fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, go for regular brisk walks for 30 to 40 minutes daily and avoid stress and maintain a healthy weight.

I Wish her Good Health.
