What Is The Treatment For Adhesions Caused After Appendix Surgery?
Yes I believe I have adhesions in the area of my childhood appendix operations that have been causing me digestive discomfort whenever food of any kind even water passes through the ileo-cecal valve into that are of the ascending colon where the surgery was performed. During a colonoscopy if they find adhesions can they be surgically cut or stretched during the colonoscopy or is a separate surgery always required?
Large intestine location usually prevents it from being narrowed by adhesions. It is small intestine which is the most often affected by adhesions. However appendectomy (if there was no abscess) very rarely causes bowels obstruction due to adhesions. Due to adhesions and partial bowels obstruction you should have cramping, bloating, occasional gas and stool obstruction. If the symptoms are more like a discomfort, this does not have to be adhesions related issue.
During colonoscopy they are unable to cut adhesions. Adhesions are outside the intestine, inside the abdominal cavity. To reach this area through large intestine, perforation in the intestine wall would allow that. But this is not a good idea. So colonoscopy cant fix adhesions.
Please also note that surgery to remove adhesions will cause new adhesions creation (can be even more adhesions than after first surgery).
Hope this will help. Regards.
