Brief Answer:
No permanent cure. It can be prevent.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) Zuska disease (sub-areolar abscess) is associated with frequent inflammation (mostly aseptic) and squamous metaplasia of lactiferous ducts. It may develop during lactation or after puerperal period. It often flares up with fistula.

2) There is NO permanent cure for this disease. However, it can be prevented by undergoing several steps. Quit smoking (if you have the habit) and stay away from dusty environment. Maintain personal hygiene and take care of breast.

3) Do some basic investigations like complete blood count, thyroid profile, serum prolactin and blood sugar. One ultrasound scan of breast is advisable to find out other pathology and for evaluation. Do mammography at periodic interval. You should consult with surgical oncologist for proper guidance.

4) Endocrine disorder should be corrected or treated properly according to test reports. Surgical treatment is usually done in acute case by incision and drainage, followed by antibiotic therapy.

However, it has tendency to recur and often presents with fistula. In recurrent cases, excision of affected lactiferous duct is done through radical incision. You may require ultrasound guided FNAC if there is fluid. Vitamin A supplement should be added with daily diet as a preventive strategy.

Hope, it helps for your information. Wish your good health and take care.
