Hi, I was wondering if you would have a suggestion for me because I have been sick for about 4 weeks already. My symptoms are coughing and a runny nose. I tried many kinds of medicine already but they don t seem to help me much. I really want to get rid of my cough but I m not sure what kind of medicine would really actually help me. As i said before, i also have a runny nose, and about every 5 minutes i would have to go blow my nose and it gets really irritating. Please respond to my query.
If you are having persistent symptoms of runny nose and coughing, it is possible that it may be due to allergic rhinitis (allergy of the nasal passages) and allergic sinusitis (allergies of the sinuses).
Treatment would involve: (1)avoiding the allergen if known. Most common allergens are dust, pollen, pets. In some persons it may be particular foods
(2) oral anti histamines
(3)oral and topical decongestants
(4)topical steroid nasal sprays- this may require a prescription from your doctor. Examples are nasonex, nasocort, flonase, rhinocort
I hope this helps
