Tobacco use is the most common risk factor for getting oral cancer. The risk is more if the patient is using alcohol and also the tobacco. Prolonged exposures to radiation or sunlight are main contributing factors for causing oral cancer.
Tobacco use in the form of cigarettes, cigars or pipes or using chew or snuff tobacco is the highest risk of developing oral cancer.
In the initial stages the oral cancer look like an ulcer, soreness or the color change in the tissue.
Oral cancer is mainly causes by over use of tobacco. The small percentage of cancer is seen in people who do not use tobacco. The other causative agents of oral cancer are cigarette, cigar and pipe tobacco and who chew tobacco. It is also common in people who do reverse smoking that is smoking with lit end in the mouth.
The best preventive mechanism of oral cancer is to have dental examinations every 6 months
